Privacy Policy

We use visitor cookies and share visit and click data with our advertiser, Arbor, to measure which stories lead to purchases. Global Privacy Control disables the Arbor page script and visitor IDs.

Server logs

This site is self-hosted. Like any web server, ours records each request: IP address, time, requested page, referring page and browser type (user agent). We use these logs for security, troubleshooting and to count visits and clicks per story and per ad campaign. They are deleted after 90 days at the latest.

Visitor cookies

When you open a page or follow a link to an advertiser, our server sets a cookie named lander_vid. It holds a random ID and nothing else. It is set by tsdnews.com itself, not by a third party, cannot be read by scripts on the page (HttpOnly) and expires after 395 days. It lets us recognize the same browser across visits, and it lets the advertiser connect a visit here with a purchase made later on its own site.

The Arbor script also sets a cookie named arbor_pvid on this site. It contains a random visitor ID and expires after one year. The script reads this ID and adds it to Arbor links as partner_vid.

Links to advertisers

Advertorials on this site feature products of our advertiser Arbor (startarbor.com). Most links to Arbor first pass through our own address (/go/…) and then forward you. On the way they carry the cookie ID, the story you came from and the campaign parameters of the ad that brought you here, such as UTM values, ad and campaign IDs and click IDs.

What we share with the advertiser

To measure which stories and ads lead to purchases, we pass a record of each page view and each such click on this site to Arbor: time, page, cookie ID, campaign parameters and click IDs, referring page, IP address, user agent and device type. Arbor uses this data under its own privacy policy. On our side these records are kept for 35 days. The Arbor script also sends page-view data directly from your browser as described below.

The Arbor script sends the full page address, including any search or campaign parameters, the referring page when available, visitor ID and a random event ID toapi.visitharbor.com. If Meta cookies _fbp or _fbcalready exist on this site, their values are included. Arbor also receives your IP address and browser information as part of the network request.

Your choices

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we set no cookie and attach no ID to links to the advertiser. In the records we share, IP address, user agent, referring page and click IDs are removed; what remains (time, page, device type and the campaign of the ad) only allows counting. A link you click still carries the campaign parameters of the ad that brought you, as any ad link does. Our own server logs are kept as described above.

With GPC enabled, the Arbor script stays off: it sets no arbor_pvidcookie, sends no page-view request and adds no partner_vid to links.

You can enable GPC in a browser or browser extension that supports it. We treat GPC as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. Deleting these cookies in your browser resets the IDs.

Storage in your browser

A short script keeps the campaign parameters of the ad that brought you, and the current story, in your browser's session storage, so they travel with a click to the advertiser. Session storage is cleared when you close the tab.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, for example under US state privacy laws such as California's or under the GDPR, you have the right to know what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Using these rights will not change how this site works for you. For any request, email contact@tsdnews.com.
