Lumen vs. Marlowe Home: The Diffuser Duel Our Office Fought Over

Scent has quietly become the third rail of interior style — the thing guests notice before the sofa and remember after the art. The celebrity-home tours everyone rewatches (the candle counts in those AD walkthroughs are doing a lot of work) have pushed diffusers from spa accessory to styled-object status. Our office desk pod had two favorites and one very divided Slack thread, so we ran them head to head for a month.

How we tested

Both diffusers ran daily in the same open-plan pod — Lumen on the left desk, Marlowe on the right — filled with the same sandalwood oil to keep the formula constant. We timed runtime per fill, measured how far the scent carried with the very scientific method of walking backward until we couldn’t smell it, and tracked how often each unit needed a refill or a deep clean.

We also lived with them as objects: photographed them on shelves, moved them to a bedside table for a week, and noted the noise floor at night. The office vote at month’s end was lopsided — but the runner-up has its own cult, and after four weeks we understand exactly why.
