Isle SPF 50 vs. Solstice Daily SPF: One Beach Weekend, Two Face Sunscreens

Face SPF is the one step every celebrity facialist agrees on — the women with the most photographed skin in the world, from Jennifer Lopez’s longtime glow team to the derms quoted in every summer beauty issue, all say the same thing: the best sunscreen is the one you’ll actually reapply. So we took the two most-requested formulas to Montauk and made reapplication the whole test.

How we tested

Four editors across four skin tones spent a three-day beach weekend alternating sides of their faces, morning application at the rental house and reapplication at 1 p.m. on the sand. We logged white cast in direct sunlight, tackiness at the hour mark, and whether either formula survived a swim plus a towel-off.

Day three was the decider: full face of makeup in the morning, then a mandatory midday reapplication right on top. Isle’s mineral veil pilled on two of four testers; Solstice layered cleanly on all four. Nobody got burned on either side — both formulas do their actual job — but the bottle everyone grabbed on the checkout morning was the hybrid, and it wasn’t close.
