Halcyon vs. Sable: We Wore Both Hair Serums for Six Weeks Straight

Glass hair is still the request every colorist hears — the mirror-shine blowout that turned up on every red carpet from the Grammys to the Venice festival this year. Stylists who work with the likes of Sydney Sweeney have been open about the secret: it’s not the blowout, it’s the serum underneath it. Two names kept coming up in our DMs, so we bought both and cleared our schedules.

How we tested

Four testers — fine and straight, wavy, curly (3c), and bleached-damaged — used each serum for three weeks, then swapped for three more. Everyone kept their usual wash schedule and heat tools, and we logged shine, frizz hours, and how hair felt on day two and three.

The twist: we also ran both bottles through a humid August week and one very sweaty gym-bag test. Halcyon’s watery texture meant nobody had to ration it, while Sable’s richer formula demanded a lighter hand — one pump too many and fine hair went limp by noon. By week six, every tester could identify her bottle blindfolded by feel alone, and three of four reached for Halcyon on the morning the test officially ended.
