Blake Lively Washes Her Hair Less Than You Think — Her Stylist Explains Why
The blonde waves look high-maintenance. The actual rule behind them is the opposite: fewer washes, smarter intervals, and one in-between step that does the heavy lifting.

Blake Lively’s hair has its own filmography — but the routine behind it, per stylists who’ve described her approach over the years, contradicts everything drugstore commercials taught us. The waves aren’t built in the shower. They’re built in the days between.
The rule: wash less. Much less.
The interval method
Frequent washing strips the scalp’s oils, which triggers the scalp to overproduce them — the greasy-by-day-two cycle most people think is their hair type is actually their wash schedule. Stylists call the fix “training the interval”: stretch washes gradually — every other day, then every third, then fourth — while the scalp recalibrates over four to eight weeks.
The in-between work is mechanical, not chemical: a thorough nightly brush-through with boar bristles to move scalp oils down the hair shaft (free conditioner), and a targeted refresh at the roots. “Day three is when the good texture shows up,” one stylist told us. “Most people wash it away before it arrives.”

Surviving the transition
The recalibration weeks are the hard part — this is where a non-aerosol powder earns its place, absorbing root oil without the dulling buildup of spray cans.
The one our testers used to reach day four is below.

The brush-through at night tip is criminally underrated. Day three looks intentional now.
Her hair has been goals since Gossip Girl. Knowing it's just discipline + powder is oddly freeing.
Dark hair, no white cast, day four. The pick is legit.
